For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. Heb 4:12 AMPC
So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth: it shall not return to Me void [without producing any effect, useless], but it shall accomplish that which I please and purpose, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Isa 55:11 AMPC
Everybody has an opinion these days. I suppose the world was always full of people with opinions, but today it’s also very easy to find a platform for sharing your opinion. Between social media, talk shows, blogs etc, the world we live in is inundated with words. Everyone is a supposed authority and it’s sometimes hard to pick out the truth from the lies. When I speak my opinion, or even someone else’s in a situation, it has no power. It’s just words.
But the Bible says that the Word that God speaks – His word – has power. It’s FULL of power. The words on the pages of the Bible actually have power. They aren’t outdated and irrelevant. God’s Word is active. It produces an appropriate effect. My words in and of themselves have no power. But God’s Word in my mouth – THAT has power! So why would I speak my own thoughts about a situation that is dead, broken or in desperate need of change? My complaining has no effect. It accomplishes nothing.
God’s Word is effective. Speaking His Word brings energy and life where there was none. It cuts through all the superficial junk in our lives with laser-like precision so we can see our own hearts. It cuts away and sifts out all the lies we tell ourselves until we can truly see our motives. It unearths and exposes the deep issues of the heart. Without reading God’s Word consistently, we cannot see ourselves as we really are.
Without God’s Word I am ill-equipped to effect change in my life. We need to know the Word and then speak it. Even God spoke in order to create the world we see around us. Speaking sends the Word forth. Speaking gives the Word a mission – sends it in a direction to accomplish the purpose for which it was sent.
God was strategic in how He spoke when He created the world. This is how we should be. Get into the Word of God and prayerfully find the words that apply to your circumstance. Every word isn’t for every situation. Just like every seed can’t flourish in every type of soil. It may grow and produce a little something. But will it flourish?
As we speak the truth of God’s Word over our situation, we will see life in areas we never thought could be healed. Places that you thought were unreachable and beyond repair can flourish under the restorative power of God’s Word. The Word of God prospers in the thing for which it was sent. It must accomplish what God sends it to do. So speak God’s Word, not your own. Declare His truth rather than your lifeless complaints and opinions. Allow God’s Word to wash over your life and your soul. Let the truth of your heart and motives come to the fore. Allow God to bring change and transformation to who you are. To mold you into who you were really meant to be. The power of God’s Word will activate and invigorate your weary soul. The truth of God’s Word will set you free. So start reading His Word and then send it out. Speak it!
