My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for He will pluck my feet out of the net. Ps 25:15 AMPC
1 If it had not been the Lord Who was on our side—now may Israel say— 7 We are like a bird escaped from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken, and we have escaped! 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Ps 124: 1, 7-8
Ps 25:15 is a perfect picture of faith. We’ve all fallen into the snares and traps of the enemy before. And sometimes we get so caught up in trying to avoid the nets and traps that we take our eyes off Jesus. We need to keep our eyes on the Lord. Focus on Him. Enlarge Him in our praises and declare His Word over our situations. Only He can release us from the enemy’s traps. We cannot save ourselves. Nor can we see all that lies ahead. So in faith, we fix our eyes on Jesus, knowing that He will keep us as we step. He will pluck our feet out of the net and keep us moving toward all He has for us.
Where do we begin to fill in the blanks after “If it had not been the Lord Who was on our side“? What we know of God’s mercy, what we can see that He has spared us from is a tiny fraction of all that He has done, is doing and will do on our behalf. He saves us from ourselves. But also, He saves us from the traps and snares of the enemy. He keeps us from getting entangled in the nets of the one who seeks to make us stumble and fall. If we listen to His voice, if we are careful to follow His lead.
The name of the Lord is mighty. He made all that we see and all that we can’t see. When we feel trapped, when it seems the enemy has entangled us in a net of worry, doubt or insecurity, may we call on the name of the only One who can break the snare. And when all is said and done, may we not operate as thought we’re still trapped even after the Lord has freed us. May we truly know that the nets have been removed by what Jesus did for us on the cross.
We have escaped! We are free! Free from sin, shame, worry, doubt, unforgiveness, needing others’ approval, perfectionism… Today we can choose to be free. To walk in the freedom bought for us with Christ’s blood. We are no longer bound but free!
