Jesus replied, I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time). John 6:35 AMPC
If there is ever a time when I feel a deep desire or need for anything other than Jesus, I need to check to see if I am truly believing in, cleaving to, trusting in and relying on Him.
If I am convinced of His truth and confident in His love,
If I am deeply attached to Jesus, clinging to Him as my Dear Life,
If I trust firmly in His ability and strength,
If I depend on Him, recognize that I exist because of Him, that I am contingent on the fact that HE IS,
If I am relying on Him for support and guidance even in the things I think I do well…
If I am in that state, there is no room to thirst or hunger for anything other than His presence…no space to deeply desire anything else.
Jesus must become our only source of satisfaction and sustenance. The One we look to and depend on for strength. The One who provides all that we need in order to grow and be well. As bread is used as a symbol of nourishment, in a very real way, Jesus must become for us the One who fills us and makes us whole. Nothing and no one else can truly do that.
That is why Jesus could make the statement He did, speaking in such absolutes. That we would never hunger or thirst ever again, at any time if we put our faith in Him. Because He is so infinite, that if we are fully engaged in loving Him from moment to moment, it becomes impossible to yearn for anything else in the same way. Nothing else compares. Nothing is as sweet.
May we find that place of true contentment and total dependence on Jesus, and stop the vicious cycle of trying to fill ourselves with cheap substitutes that were empty all along.
Love & Blessings,
