Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you; He will never allow the [consistently] righteous to be moved (made to slip, fall, or fail). Psalm 55:22 AMPC
19 Blessed be the Lord, Who bears our burdens and carries us day by day, even the God Who is our salvation! Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]! Psalm 68:19 AMPC
God wants us to come to a place of total dependence on Him. He wants to relieve us of everything that weighs us down. Everything that makes us feel heavy inside. We weren’t meant to carry the loads we try to bear. Whether its depression, anxiety, worry or fear. Whatever it is, if it burdens you, God wants to carry it.
In order for God to carry our burdens there’s something we must do. We must release the weight of the burdens to Him. Sometimes we ask God to carry our burden, but we still try to bear the weight of it. We ask Him to help us, but we continue to try to fix our problems on our own. Very often we give our burdens to God in word alone. We say we want Him to take care of our concerns. But when things aren’t going the way we want or they aren’t happening quickly enough, we decide to take the burden back. We begin to struggle and strive in our own strength. The result is always burnout and resentment towards God. You see, bearing a load you’re not meant to carry causes strain.
We ask for help, but do not truly receive it. Receiving help requires us to release what we’re holding onto. We hold so tightly onto pride, fear and control. But God will not share your burdens. He wants you to give them over to Him. The trouble most of us face is that giving our burdens to God means giving up control. It means allowing God to do things in His perfect time and way. It takes a dying to self. A stepping down from the throne of your life. A choice to trust God. Fully and completely with no reservation. It’s a vulnerable place to be. But in that place of surrender is the relief of knowing that God will work things out for your good.
He promises to sustain us. To provide what is needed for us to not only exist, but to carry on. He will keep us going. He will bear us up without breaking or falling. He will give us the strength to endure trials. His love is sure and steady. Strong enough to keep us through everything we face. There is nothing happening in our lives that outweighs His ability to uphold us.
You don’t have to carry your burdens alone. It’s time to choose. Choose to stop struggling to work things out in your own strength. He is our salvation and only hope. Every day He carries us. Every day His mercies are new. It’s time to release your burdens and receive God’s grace. Time to rest in the arms of the Father.
