They will have no fear of bad news; their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.  Psalm 112: 7 NIV

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.  Proverbs 31: 25 NIV

Many think of the future and are immediately fearful.  Some of us see darkness when we look ahead into the unknown.  Uncertainty for many of us brings feelings of anxiety and worry.  It’s really hard not knowing how things will turn out.  Not knowing what’s coming next.  What lies ahead.  This often leads us into a panicked need to control as much as we can.  The sad part is, there’s no happiness in trying to control your own future.  Actions motivated by fear never lead to anywhere truly good.  We must certainly take responsibility for our decisions and their consequences.  But for followers of Jesus, we entrust the future to Him.

What a weight off our shoulders to know that our future rests in the hands of the Author of time itself!  To know that the One who engineered the heavens has good plans for each one of us.  This is why the righteous are described in the scripture as having no fear of bad news.  The righteous – not righteous by our own doing.  The righteous – people who recognize their desperate need of a Savior.  The ones who allowed Jesus to clothe us in his robes of righteousness in exchange for our sin.  We have no fear of bad news because we live in light of the good news.  Christ is our only hope and greatest treasure.  So nothing that happens, good or bad, could ever outweigh the magnitude of what’s already been done for us.  That simple fact removes the power of the unknown to evoke fear or doubt or worry in our hearts.

Our hearts are made strong by our confidence in God.  Our assurance of His goodness overshadows any fear of the unknown.  The focus becomes not what we don’t know about the future, but who we know is waiting for us there.  Today as we consider the future, may we find ourselves able to laugh.  To experience true joy.  Because the future isn’t dependent on us.  It rests on the shoulders that bear the weight of the entire Universe with ease.  Now that’s something to look forward to!

Love & Blessings,
