Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice. Isaiah 41:10 AMPC
I’m sometimes amazed when I read Bible verses where God says there is nothing to fear. I’m kind of like, “God, do you see my life? Lots to be afraid of here!” But as always, the Lord speaks only the truth. The truth is that He tells us there is nothing to fear. But He also justifies that statement. He tells us there’s noting to fear because He is with us!
So how do we remember there’s nothing to fear when everything around us looks frightening? God tells us in His Word. He says, “Do not look around you in terror”. In this statement, God is telling us two important things:
- Where we look is important. Don’t look around you. Don’t take your cues on what to believe based on what you see. Don’t walk by sight. Instead, look to God. Look into His Word. Hide it in your heart. Let your focus be on God and His goodness rather than your problems.
- How we look is important. God tells us in scripture not to look around in terror. So as we look around, the posture needs to be one of faith rather than fear. Instead of terror, we must look around in gratitude. In awe. In praise.
Then God in His goodness finishes out the verse with lots of reassurance. He tells us He will make us strong. He will toughen us up. Make us able to withstand the difficulties we face. He promises to help us. To fill in the gaps for us. He reminds us that He will hold us up. Bear us up in our weakness. When we feel the load of life’s troubles are too much for us to bear. He will be strong for us.
May we rest in the assurances of our loving Father today. May we know that no matter what we face, His promises are true. May we all come to a place of faith where we realize that truly, since God is with us, there is nothing to fear.
Love & Blessings,
