Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
The Bible is full of reminders of God’s faithfulness. Its pages are full of words of encouragement. Assurances of God’s love. His presence. Promises of His goodness and care over us. Life is beautiful. But it’s also full of difficulty. Situations that challenge our faith arise at every turn. God in His wisdom knows how much we need to be reassured. How much we need to be reminded that there’s nothing to fear. That God is on our side. That He fights our battles.
This scripture is a wonderful reminder of how secure we are in the Father. We are told that God will personally go ahead of us. He doesn’t send someone on His behalf. The Creator of the Universe personally goes ahead of us in time to prepare the way. To provide all that we need. To make crooked paths straight. Ensuring that all things work together for our good. God Himself is busy at work preparing a future for us.
It would have been enough reason to praise God for going ahead of us. But the blessing doesn’t stop there! God doesn’t only promise to go before us. He also promises to be with us. God is not restricted by time and space. He always has been. He is Omnipresent. He’s at work in our future but He’s a very present help in our times of need. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. What an awesome God we serve! The God who prepares our future for us and then lovingly ushers us into it. Walking with us every step of the way.
When life’s challenges come, may we remind ourselves of who God is. But also of where God is. That God is ahead of us and with us. There is no need to be afraid. No need to fear what we see. Because the unseen God is working on our behalf. He will never abandon us. Never forsake us or leave us without help. Discouragement has no place in our hearts. Because our God promises never to fail us. Even when it seems there is no hope. There is no situation beyond God’s ability to intervene. May we rest assured in this and God’s many other promises to us today.
